^^^^^^ They're 13 watts. Unless you want to try and grow 1 blade of grass I wouldn't recommend them. They're .057 watts per LED. Your want to look for 3 watts per LED. HUGE difference.

Just use photobucket. Its free, and you just paste the "IMG" link into the post.

This is the best FTS I could manage. This is blue-er than it really appears but this is the setting I Usually keep it at.

This is the hole I cut in my hood and used weatherstripping to block the light from seeping out

I only have a cheapie camera so I cant really adjust the settings but if there is shot other than what is already requested, let me know.

I am only posting this at the request of some people who were considering purchasing this light. I dont think the photos really show how nice the colors are. That and the fact I dont have any corals yet may make these photos a little useless, but I was trying to help out some people who may be on the fence.

Thanks! Originally I was going to set it into my hood but the plastic light protector was too far gone to save and I thought that maybe it didnt need to be that close to the water considering that most people hang them much higher above the water. I am happy and it passes the wife test so I am happy!

They may have had to move violets to the white channel. The forward voltage of different leds are different, and sometimes cannot be placed on the same string.

Are all the whites dim, or just a few? You said you have whites on the second dimmer... but you said dimmer 2 is 23 blue, 4 violet? Those dim leds that look almost whitish are probably your violets.

The second dimmer has 27 blues in steal of 23 blue and 4 violet. When I turn the second dimmer on all the blues light up and the 17 whites look pinkish. When I turn the dimmer up all the way, the blue is gets brighter but the whites stay the same pink color.

thanks for showing some pics cappy. nice job on the retrofit too! what % are you running on the 2 dimmers. is the moonlight really bright?

Thanks for the kind words.

I still play around with the three dimmers. I can get some pretty cool colors (like a deep velvety-blood look) to come out on my clowns with the red/green and blues turned up and the whites off, but it doesnt look very natural. The way I seem to like it so far is blues at about 60-70%, red/green/Violet at 50% and whites at 50%. I can turn everything up to 100% and get a similar look to what I like, but I thought it would be better not to have it cranked up too far so my fish dont get sun-burned:hmm5:

I am starting to change my mind from the original review concerning the brightness of the moonlights. I had moonlights before, but they were more of a spotlight effect so the brightness did throw me off a little. I am going to search the forums for some moonlight pics and see if I can compare. If the tank were in a room you were sleeping in it may be too bright, but since I moved the light to the hood it keeps everything contained better. When I first took it out of the box I went topless and used the leg kit

A little off topic, but do most of you leave your moonlights on all night?

Thanks

I just thought I'd share pricing i received for this light. Seems a bit pricy but for a 48'' light fixture w/Cree bulbs it's not too bad. I just don't like the shipping charge.

I am checking out this fixture for $281 shipped. http://www.ledaquagrow.com/en-view-cp405.html Right now they are have a ratio of 12pcs white, 6pcs blue, 4pcs royal blue, 2pcs purple But I asked about changing one of the whites to red and one to green. I also want to know about the dimming. How many zones there are for dimming.

Would be a good option with Cree leds. 24 Bridgelux wouldn't be enough. No idea how this fixture is... no one has it yet.

That seems like the blue to white ratio is off. I think most are getting at least a 1:1 ratio or 2:1 (blues to whites). I kind of think that many whites may over shadow the blues.

Someone else can confirm, but I remember seeing those ratios mentioned in relation to their halide counterparts(14k etc..). I know this is a long thread but its in here somewhere.

1rb:1cw 10k

2rb:1cw 14k (Phoenix 14k)

3rb:1cw 17-20k (Radium 20k)

Asian reefers prefer a 10k look. American reefers prefer 14k-20k

I looked at these at one time. They make another model that has, I think, 80-something LEDs. I wondered if not having fans would have shortened the bulb life. My bud selling Pharos was looking into these distributing these lights at first. He chose not to---can't remember the specifics of why though.

Well, just ask my wife and she will tell you I have a hard time deciding on anything. :headwally: However I think this is the light that I am going for http://www.fobsun.com/led-aquarium-lights-p-362.html . There are 36 lights and I asked for a ratio of do 12 pcs white plus 6 pce blue on one dimmer and 14 pices blue, 2 pcs violet, 1 piece red and one piece green on the other dimmer? I am not sure if I should add another red and green though? Seems like I should to spread the lights out better over the tank.

I have a 20 gallon long that is only 12 inches deep so I do not have a lot of room for the light to spread and I do not want to have the light too high over the tank because it is in our TV room. Having a light shining high up on the wall would be a major distraction.

What do you all think about the ratios? It is $202 shipped so that seems to be a fair price.

HI GUYS! Ok first of all I want to thank everyone for this thread. It has helped me greatly.

I've decided to go with 4 of these on my 300g http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/546432064/2012_dimmable_led_aquarium_light_with.html

I think being able to dim the reds and greens will help me dial in the color I want and being only a FOWLR I think it will look great.

I do have two issues that I want some help with though.

1. Optics- the tank is 31" deep so I'm thinking 60 degree in the middle and 90 on the outsides? Tight beams to penetrate to the bottom and wider beams to help blend between the fixtures. Am I ok here or am I missing something? Help me figure out the best setup for four fixtures across the top.

2. cool white vs nuetral white. The fixtures have red and green led so I'm not considering warm whites...but I think it's time to move away from ATI Blue+ domination. I'd like a more natural look like I was snorkling in the tropics. Sunlight isn't blue.

Please help me pick my white led setup. Maybe some cw and some nw both? Maybe all three? I have ZERO idea what I'm doing here so experienced help with pictures maybe would be greatly appreciated.

I like what voxboy is doing in post #43 here http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2182850&page=2
but I am worried about making the right decision because I've changed my T-5 bulbs around a bunch and there are certain "looks" that I really don't like at all.

Currently I have a 5 bulb T-5 fixture with 2-ATI blue+, 2 aquablue, 1 purple+ and it's a look I've had for years. It's nice but I want something a bit more natural, little less "windex".

I've spoken with Ada a few times and she's all ready for my order but I need to figure this out first.

What optics where...and what whites to go with. :hmm5:

Looks like Sam and Evergrow are having a sale. This would save around $20ish per fixture.

bhazard, thanks for answering my questions. do you get a 24 x 24" spread with the nova a4 when it is 10" above your water line?

cappy, i leave my led moonlights on 24/7. when my t5s/halides turn on, i don't even notice the moonlights.

snausy, look at page 92, post #2280 where i describe the power and dimmer switches that i configured. i think it's worth getting the external power switch for the moonlight so you have more control over the LEDs. sorry i can't offer any help regarding the white LEDs but please keep this forum updated as I am sure there are many like me still on the fence.
