Thanks. I can do anything with the lights as far as height. I can put them right over the water or as high as needed. No canopy. Maybe go with the 60's and keep them fairly close. I could also angle them facing back a bit.
I still dont see how to chose the optics when purchasinh from this outfit?
I also stated Cree because in that particular listing it states they are Cree.

per sam .. really bad idea to use some with optics and others without.. something about heat.. i dont know.. but sam was against it..

If it's a tall, you'll probably want to use optics. Optics focus the light downward, instead of spreading the light in a wider path... kind of like how a magnifying glass focuses light.

Use a 2:1 blue:white ratio, with some violets thrown in. If you want a whiter look, all you have to do is turn the blue dimmer knob down to 50% or less.

Ok. Just got back from my LFS and speaking with them 90's seem to be the way to go.
Now how the heck to order the optics with a 50/50 mix. The is the unit I want but I dont see a way to add the optics. Do I have to email Sam and how do I contact him?

If you don't want to contact them directly to have them create a custom link, just use this one. 30/25 is close enough to 1:1.

Those look nice, real similar to the Reef Breeders one I posted a link for. I wonder if they could customize it to add a few extra colors? Someone in China needs to make a build to order site already so we can simplify all of this. Choose your fixture and led layout, colors, optics, 0-10V dimming. Add it all up and send payment.
 
Hey so I have a 220 gallon. 72long/24 deep/30 tall. Softy and lps I know I need optics but I'm thinking of buying the d120's( Sam recommended them over a8) what is a good led combination. I want a 14-16k look. I need 3 of them and would like them to turn on a little bluer at first then later the other dimmer turns on and makes it brighter.
What optics do I need?

I have 3 D120's 28B/27W with 90 degree optics on order. Will post pics and impression when they are plugged in. Going from pretty crappy lighting to these should be huge.
Now I just have to tear down this tank/sump and replace it with the one that has been sitting here for months waiting to be set up.

do you guys think the D120 w/optics will be enough light for my 45 gal mixed reef. was looking at the E shines but the prices w/shipping are pretty high. i was gonna just buy a small light for my 24 gal anemone tank to get rid of the 150w viper clip on light but now am considering the D120 for the DT.. I currently have a 250w 20k MH with 4 24 watt T5 on it now and was wondering if this would do a better job.. dimensions are 30x18x?.. thanks and also was considering getting one of the evergrows for the 24 gal also what would you guys reccommend.. And whats the consensus on the colors? do custom as stated above or get one of there pre made ones with either UV or the violet.. sorry for the rant :)
 
Ok guys I need your help before I place my order!

Here is my new setup after talking with them about how to run the led's for the dimmer (so hopefully they can do it):

My questions are the following:

1) I was reading that for white 4500k is highly recommended.
Evidently the 10000k won't look good with all the blue. I heard the following regarding coral growth:

6500k = most growth, but also equals butt ugly.

10k = good growth, better color

14k = marginal growth, much better color

20k = even less growth, but very awesome color

The problem is they don't offer 4500k just the following:

W（3000-3500k）
W（6000-6500k）
W（6500-7000k）
W（7000-7500k）
W（7500-8000k）
W（8000-8500k）
W（10000-12000k)
W（12000-14000k)
W（16000-18000k）

So what should I choose, right now I have 6 NW and 10 CW (see diagram)?

2) How should I arrange the dimmers?
Right now I have the red and violet running on the blue dimmer and the whites running on the other with the rest of the blues. I see lots of people putting the violet with the whites but didn't know why.

3) Any additional criticism or recommendations please...
