chinese led lights

I'm interested in comparing it to the other fixtures I've tried. I also bought an Apollo Reef Led fixture. I need to see the differences in a quality bridgelux bin, versus a generic chinese one.

Once I get it, I'll have my Reefbreeders one for sale. That one helped me see that adding a few reds increases coloring, at the expense of possibly growing nuisance algae quicker.

Alright just about to order mine and this is what I have so far:

OK, aluminium case, 60 degree optics, 3 channels.
1> First channel for white (mix of 6500k and 10000k) 25pcs
2> Second chanel for blue and royal blue 27pcs
3> Third channel for moonlight (royal blue) 3pcs

Just one thing to bear in mind, I was talking to Simon and he told me that there Royal Blues are 460nm and Blues are 440nm but I think they have that around the wrong way cause the Crees are the other way around. Also The maximun Amps for each leds is 700ma, but the real current is 630ma, so the the wattage of the whole lamp is 120w. I have worked it out and this is going ro cost me $300 including shipping to New Zealand which is $82 USD. Not sure if you guys get it for free or not but if you do just the light by itself is $218.

Add 4 violets to the white channel. 420nm is optimal, but they only have 400nm, which is somewhat ok. Royal Blue is around 440-460. Cool Blue is usually around 470-480nm. Go with both blues anyway, wont hurt.

Shipping is $59 to the US.

The reason I haven't gone with any Actinics is that I already have a DIY bridgelux fixture and TBH think that LED Actinics are a waste of time as I don't find them very bright or giving a pop to my corals (I have 10 on there own driver). I will be using 2 x ATI True Actinic T5HOs to supplment my LEDs.

That would look pretty awesome. A LED/T5 actinic combo is great if you have the space for it. Would look awkward for me to hang both though.

what the diff between royal blue and blue.. should we try and do both.. in a unit

They are different colour spectrums. Royal Blue is around 440-460. Cool Blue is usually around 470-480nm as stated by bhazard451 and it covers the entire blue spectrum which corals use to grow along with others. In short no you don't need them however I would say yes you should have them in. All the top end LED fixtures have both. In saying that I have only had Royal Blues in my DIY fixture for 7 months or so and have had good results with my SPS and Zoos.

OK SO ON THE BLUES.. sorry ... for blues.. do a 2:1 maybe.. royal to cool blue.

You're worrying too much. Look at a Radion or Maxspect to get ideas for coloring.

Aside from Royal Blue, Whites, and Violets (420nm actinic), all the other colors are mostly for visual appeal. They do nothing for your coral or fish, aside from enhancing a few colors. Use very few, and try not to sacrifice too many whites or royal blues for them. I would use 2 blue tops if you are using other colors.

And to add to that if you are using 10k for whites you might want to use a little less royal blues cause if the epistar LEDs are like the bridgelux the 10k whites are a little blue.

thanks bhazzard.. done thinking about this.. this thread the more i read it the more i think about this.. sounds like a commercial

Wouldn't you be able to use a PC power cord in the meantime?
