Bhazard..the Twilight fixture your ordered, what did you decide for your ratio and leds? I see the 10% off on the site and I am real tempted to order with Simon. I like my d120 but I really wanted a controller for my tank.

LED Quantity 55pcs 3W bridgelux/epistar LEDs
optics 60 degree
spectrum ratio blue460nm:white14000k:red630nm:green515nm: orange610nm:violet400nm=34:15:1:2:2:1
control channels: Three channels, one for moonlight; the 2 other control daylight

It might be a bit bluer than I'd like, so I might have to lower the blue intensity a bit.

Bhazard- listing 2968 did you order this from Twighlight, and if so, do you have the link to post? I may have missed in trying to keep up with all these posts :headwally: I am liking their 10% off this week as well.

Where did you get a list of all the colors they offer?

Why order from twilight vs. evergrow vs. another company? I know I want customizability, aluminum case (not iron), 90 optics, and a broader spectrum somewhat like you listed (many colors for pop in corals and fish).

I see one plus with evergrow is their warranty you posted for 1st year coverage here in the US.

Twilight has programmable controller I believe (but that may be just one more thing to worry about breaking down with no US support)?

Sorry for rant, but attempting to synthesis this info.

One with 90 degree optics should work just fine.

Eshine makes some nice looking lights, but they are expensive, and their warranty is suspect. One person here reported having problems trying to get a broken controller replaced. He was just given the run around for awhile.

What would be a good fixture for a 40B?

The ones that I ordered are for my 40 breeders. I am setting up two with another 40 breeder as the sump. The led's themselves are 90 degree but I got 90 degree optics anyways.

There are lots of options. The Evergrow lights are quality, and I was impressed with my Nova A4. I've since retrofitted it with Cree leds as a DIY project. The case is coated steel. It wont rust with the coating on it. Communication was great, and they have a nice warranty setup. I highly recommend them.

The twilight one has a controller built into it, but no one has received one yet to test. All of our orders are recent. Seems like a great option too.

Gehl and Greensun are also good companies. I'm sure there are more.

I forget somewhere back in the nebulous did someone add a third dimmer or switch to the Evergrow D120 for moonlights? Wondering if it is possible and what price was? I read it somewhere in the last 50+ pages, just not sure of the unit/mfgr.

Just chiming in, I use the taotronics 120w (pretty much the d120) 30B 25W, been on the tank for a bit now corals still doing great,

Zoas frogspawn and ricordia, no sps yet but these zoas came from a MH tank and are doing great in mine.

I wanna get 2 novas a4's for our 75g but I just seen they only have 48 LEDs vs the 55 LEDs d120 ect....

Is the coverage gonna be better with the d120's?

Now I'm wondering if it would be worth the extra $ to get the Apollo fixture and get an apex?

Question on the dimmers for these. I got mine a few days ago and when playing with the dimmer it dosent seem to get any brighter after the halfway point (specifically on the blues). Is it just not visually brighter? Or could there be something wrong with the dimmer?

I like my Nova with optics better than a d120 without optics. 48 vs 55 leds is not noticeable.

If you don't have an Apex already, its not very efficient to pay $500 for it, and then another $400 for the light. All you would be missing with the Evergrow's are automatic dimming and moonlights.

If you really want automatic dimming and moonlights, the Twilight lights with a built in controller are a nice option.

Are any of you putting your led fixtures in a canopy? If so , i need some ideas on how to do it. I was planning to reuse my existing 8" high canopy and cutting access holes in the top and leaving the tops of the fixtures exposed outside.
Anyone have any pics?

bharazd, how hard was it to retro fit leds into your NOVA unit? I finally got some other colors from Sam for my d120. and he suggested sending it to their American distributor to have them put the leds in but it appears that I could possibly do it myself. I want to try this first before I buy the Twilight controller model and see if I can get the color I was looking for. When I ordered from Sam the first time, I think I went too blue and I got all 14k whites which I did not want, plus the violets installed were 440nm from what he told me.

If you just want to change colors and use the same bridgelux leds they use, all you need to do is open the fixture, de-solder the leds you want to remove, and re solder the new ones in. If you can solder, its very easy. No wires involved, because the leds are on a pcb board.

Changing to Cree or other leds requires gutting the entire fixture, getting new drivers, re-wiring the fans, and wiring the leds from scratch. Huge pain in the ***, and is basically just building your own DIY fixture.

Great! Thanks! Plan to do the swap with other colors.
