I told him that same thing I said he should just charge a little extra to customize rather then say nocause your gonna lose lots of people.

Now remeber I'm getting the d120 not the nova series so I'm asking him ifthis goes for all units or just the cheaper one. Hopefully you can still customize an A4 or A6 so ill tell what ya what he says

I think they are getting overloaded with requests and customization. Every time they create a custom one it's a non-standard build on the factory floor, and at these prices that's probably not worth it.

I mean if I'm happy with my unit and its what I wanted id pay a lot extra to get on to match it for my upgrade ill need another and I've told sam that so this really screws me unless he will let me pay extra to make it this way again. But maybe the nova series can still be customized then ill just sell this unit and get two A4s .... I asked him we will see what he says back.

And I tried to say it nicely but I think its a bad idea to just say no to customizing and told him I honestly think they will lose a lot of people if that's the case ... Make it like an extra fee to change the standard ratio I bet peoplewill pay cause they want what they want

When I bought mine I went through Hendy. He did charge $2/UV led when I customized my a4s. I personally didn't think this was a big deal compared to the cost of AI or Radion. If they actually make a apex solution that would be awesome even if you could only do the standard configs.
On a side note does anyone have an idea which driver we could get that would let us control 24led that we could potential change to

Interesting note, Sam was curious if we could get the dimmer working so I've been updating him on the situation.

He just emailed me and told me that their engineers are working on an Apex solution!

Yep, I just got the same email. That would be amazing if they can figure it out without a driver swap, but I mentioned I would buy new compatible drivers if they can make them as well.

How awesome is that? If we tried to get just about any other company to modify their product for us, we would get laughed at.

These fixtures should be thought of as semi-DIY. If you are not willing to repair the unit yourself if something happens or change leds/drivers on your own, you would be much better off with a pre-built unit with US customer service like the Radion.

There is nothing wrong with the standard ratio. I think it looks great. The DIY side of me will add my violets when I get the time, and if I dont like it, I can always go back to the standard ratio. For the cost, I think this is an excellent solution that falls in between DIY and plug and play.

Been following this thread for a while now and just got my order in on Tuesday evening, which i was lucky to do because it looks like their are not "customizing" the units anymore.

I ended up getting 3 of the 120w 55x2w LED units for my 125g.

My breakdown of the LED's is as follows:
Dimmable Version
Switch 1: 24 Royal Blue + 4 UV
Switch 2: 23 White + 4 Violet

I put the Royal Blue and the UV together in case i have some people over at night and want to impress, and i put the Violet with the white, well because i wanted the UV with the Royal Blue and i didn't want to substitue any more of the blue's out.

Sam did mention to me that they are going to hault the customization of these units but they are going to offer my exact ratio as a standard model so you can order exactly what i had above in a few days/weeks.

Man it would be awesome to get these on a controller, but we'll see. I would pay just as much as i did for the lights for the capability to control them like the AI Sol's, can you say violet/UV thunderstorm? haha

So, here is one for us to discuss.

I am NOT an electrician but...

My coworker uses a home automation system on all of his lights, cameras, etc... It's called the X10 system.

Now he currently can control his aquarium lights via computer (on/off) and has them preprogrammed. I did some research on the X10 product line and came across this.

http://www.x10.com/automation/ws12a_s.html

That is a dimmer switch that is controlled by the X10 software OR human touch on the switch itself. Why couldn't we wire our lights through this switch and then be able to "control" them via the x10 software?

Am i just dreaming here or did i just find a way to control these LED's?

Nope. Lamp dimmers wouldn't work. The DIY threads have more info as to why, and how it would set your fixture on fire.

Wishful thinking i guess, i did say i wasn't an electrician didn't i?

haha

what are your thoughts on the color combination i went with? Probably seen your name the most throughout this thread, or one of the top contributors to this thread.

I just hope I can get him to make a matching one of the of I bought cause when I need another for my 120 upgrade I'm gonna be screwed and have to get two new units and sell this one but if I knew I would have just waited and not bought just one lol

The spec states:

0/1-10V for the input signal. I think that is good to go. Please wait for someone with more knowledge to confirm though.

You need to also closely match the current (580mah-700mah) and the wattage must not exceed 72 watts per driver (on the a4), or you'll blow out the leds.
