I'm in NY.

The combo with red/green seems to be the nicest so far. It would look just like the fixture I have over my tank now.

Once I finish retrofitting the Nova with Crees and Luxeons, I'll probably sell the temp d120 I have over my tank.

Sounds good. I will definitely add some red/green and vary the whites. Thx for the help!
 
bhazzard.. im puling the trigger on one unit.. the a6. to see how it works out.. what to do you think about this config.

optics 90 degree.

you mentioned spotting.. think i can do the red greens in 120 optics.. or would that be expecting to much from sam to do two different optics?

Violet 420nm. Nova has to use optics by design, it cant do 120 (no optics). Seems like a good ratio to me.

3 of either would work. The Novas would be more powerful, the d120s would be cheaper. You can also link the 3 Novas together so that they only use 2 wall plugs instead of 6, which is a nice touch.
 
i have sam doing a link with the above d120 with the red green and violet.. he is adding the optics of 90 degrees to it.. will post when i get the link

Thanks bhazard451. From what I have read on this thread, the d120's lack optics which require them to be placed close to the water surface, but I like the addition of violet, red and green. I was thinking of 4 of them arranged width-wise across the tank. I see that someone is looking at get optics for these units and would be interested in that.

The Nova 6's look nice, but I don't see a mix of violet, green and red. Can one get these added and what configuration would you suggest? Ideally I'd like each pod of LED's to have a consistent mix of colors that I could dim to achieve an overall color I was happy with. Three Nova 6's arranged length-wise look similar in price to 4 d120's arranged width-wise.

Also, I'd like to be able to ram up the lighting. Right now I turn on my actinic T5's, then duo and fuji T5's and finally my MH's all controlled by my Aquacontroller 3.

Your input is much appreciated. I am very happy with my coral growth and am approaching the switch to LED's with a lot of trepidation. I don't want to damage my SPS and undo years of pain-staking efforts.

You can get optics for the d120s. They cost a little bit more, but are worth it. You can also request red/green for the Novas too if you want them. I love the customization ability for these.

What you can't do is use your Aquacontroller to dim the lights. These lights are not made to do it. It requires extensive modification and different led drivers.
 
tell us a little more about spread for green red and violet.. is there a way to make those more diffuse.. i think some one mentioned they tend to spot?
 
I am looking at the same lights. I am half tempted to see if they will leave the optics off of the red and greens which might help a little with the spotlighting.
