Chloramine filters

My water dept now uses Chloramine to disinfect the water. Do the tradition 5 stage ro/di filters adequately remove the Chloramine or do I need the chlorplus carbon block?

A 5 stage working properly should be removing everything to unmeasurable levels(0 TDs.)

A TDS meter cannot detect chloramine (NH2Cl). TDS meters only detect ions.

That said, most 5-stage units (the carbon blocks) can handle chloramines (but will need replacing much sooner than usual). But it's certainly safer to get some catalytic carbon and the specialized carbon blocks.

Here is Randy's article on chloramines: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-11/rhf/feature/index.php
