Chocolate chip starfish, top of the tank, bent backwards.

I bought a small CC star yesterday. Last night when I went to feed the fish that share the tank with it, I noticed it was at the top of the glass half his body bent backwards so it was like, "resting" on the water line. I've seen on Youtube where people feed them this way, so I dropped a small piece of krill on it. It's suction cups came out but it dropped the krill ( and my Lionfish stole it). I left the room. A few minutes later I came back in my room and saw that it was still hanging there... I got worried so I knocked it down.:worried2:
This morning, I turn on the lights, it's back at the top, half it's body hanging on to the glass, half bent backwards. Why's it doing this?

I have a chocolate chip starfish too and it does exactly the same thing. I've had it for about 6 months now and there isn't a day that goes by that at some point he's not at the top of the tank with half his body hanging out. I don't know the exact reason why but I noticed he was always in the same spot right where there appeared to be maximum water flow. At least from my observation it seems it does this when it's relaxing and when it's moving all around the tank it's looking for food. I have also fed him when he's in this position with no problem.

mine does it all the time i just feed him. he does it less sence he got sent to the sump because i got coral lfs didnt tell me they love coral.

Starfish have essentially an eye on the very end of each arm, (called an eye spot, as it isn't the same as a human eye) They can actually see, but their sight is more limited to shapes and/or light and dark. I work at an aquarium and in training we were told that starfish will do the little back bend thing at the top of the tank as a way to kind of check out the tank, they are kind of "seeing" whats going on in the tank. It's pretty common and I wouldn't be worried about it. Hope that helps! :fish1:

Are feeding tongs useful? My guy hangs out at the top of the tank, seemingly hungry. I'd love to hear some recommendations on how to feed this and other invert's such as an Anemone.
