Chocolate star changing colors?

My chocolate star is turning orange. Is this normal?

Oh ya, I forgot to mention... He moves around and eats like he normally does. He did eat my flame clam about 2 weeks ago. (I thought I could keep them away and I did for about a month but he ran over there one night. Went straight for him from all the way across the tank.)

Tank is 75 gal.
Fish: 2 damsels, 1 pair mated clowns, lawn mower blenny.

Coral/Inverts: colt, kenya tree and 2 small BTAs. 1 hermit crab, 1 nasua.

Algae: 2 basketball size cheato balls.

Water parameters:
I'll have to go by my LFS to get my water checked but this is what I know for now.
SG is 1.0235
Temp is 74F

As I am sure you know, this star is NOT reef safe. All of your corals, anemones, clams, snails, etc are at risk, regardless of how much you spot feed.

IMO, your specific gravity is rather low for these stars (1.025-1.026 is better for inverts). Your temperature, IMO is very low for a reef.

Many of these stars do change colors with growth but I am concerned about some of your parameters as well just in terms of long term care.

Well, if they are eating normally and behaving normally...what and how often do you feed? As I mentioned, I feel your parameters are not ideal, but that may have nothing to do with the color change. Many seastars will change colors as they grow, but it is hard for me to know if this is the case here. I will assume it is normal, but I would prefer to see tank parameters in a different range.

They graze on hair algae throughout the tank and detruis (spelling?) in the sand.

I know the temperature and salinity are not optimal for a reef tank, but it's what I've been using for the past year. My coral seem to like it better? They get bigger and more colorful during daylight hours with those parameters.
