ChrisKirkland's 300DD Build thread - A journey and learning experience

The biggest challenge I had when re-entering the hobby 3 years ago, after being gone for about 20, was the patience required. I walked into a store and HAD to buy something, now I browse way more and make slower decisions and changes to my system.

When i brought up my 180 went way too fast and suffered for it.

+1 there. Impulse buys are the biggest problem especially when the LFS has only 1 goal in mind, sell and make a profit.

As requested current pics are below:

I have no problem with that. My wallet and money seem to have an unusually strong attraction for each other! My wife just says I'm cheap, but I tell you it's the wallet!!

I wish more LFSs in my area had kept that goal in mind. Many have perished in the last few years.

there is only 1 around here that cares. I just hope he stays popular enough to stay in business

Chris - I see in the 1st picture that your crossbraces are visible at the surface. Does this bother you at all? This occurs in one of my tanks as well.

Actually with a little experimentation I no long have those visible. I reduced the water flow in the display and compensated by turning my powerheads up. It did bother me and the gargling noise it would make. I found that I was maxing out the drains.

New Pics without the cross braces:

My camera hates the blue hue my radions are in during the end of the photo period. I will try and grab a few more pics when the lights are on fully.

Looks good! I am actually in the process of convincing the wife to let me upgrade my 150 gallon to this style 300 gallon. Keep the pictures and updates coming.

Thank you! Still making changes to the rock work. Trying to balance out my nutrients also. 1 week its too low and the next it is too high.

Time for a very sad update:

Around 4PM today I found out that the 20A breaker my tank was on tripped at 9AM. All fish except my Blue Hippo, Orange Diamond Goby, Potters Wrasse, Leopard Wrasse, Starry Blenny and clownfish were all dead.

I have removed almost all rock work so far. I guess its time to reboot the tank, I wont give up on this tank, this is my dream tank.

First Item is to get an electrician in to install a new circuit.

Sorry for your loss. :(

Get your electrician to help you diagnose the cause of the failure (lest you be doomed to repeat it). Cheers for starting over!

I was doing some reading, I have heard people say GFCI breakers are problematic with constant heavy loads. I am wondering if this is it. I am just going to have my electrician run a separate circuit so I can build in some redundancy.
