Christmas Party

Again...what food items are you guys bringing?

I was thinking maybe a dessert (pecan pie or cookies?), but maybe I should bring some "real" food? I think having a bunch of finger foods would be good, maybe a plate of crackers, cheese, ham, sausage, etc? We need cheese dip though! I'd make it if I knew how ;)

We'll bring some tostada pizzas (basically better versions of taco bell's mexican pizza)... cheese, jalapeños, etc. and do some non-spicy ones too.

And beer.

We'll start at 6:00:)

Yup, ornament exchange is optional... :D

I'll definately bring some beer... I'll see if Ashley wants to make something... I can bring some soda too... :)

Well, if you want to bring cookies, then I can bring cheese dip.

Sounds good :D

...and beer

I was thinking I'd bring frags as "wet stocking-stuffers" (sounds gross, doesn't it?) for any current or new club member who wants them. I have two great big SPS colonies I'm wanting to get out of my tank to clear some room for more exotic varieties. One is the classic Bali Green Slimer (a. yongei, grown from a fragging demo frag that Mel supplied at the 2005 Chat. swap) and the other is the ORA Scripp's Green Tip Stag (a. micropthalma, grown from a small frag I purchased at the 2006 Chat. swap). Both corals are excellent beginner corals - very fast growers and relatively bullet-proof as SPS go. Each club member can have up to one frag of each (free). I'd prefer to bring them unmounted (I can provide plugs if needed), but if you're new and not confident about mounting, I can do that for you.

My only request is you not turn around and sell these frags immediately - if I wanted them going out for profit, I'd sell them myself. I don't have a problem with anyone growing them out in their tanks and then selling their own frags, though. And I also don't have any problem with newbies trying these frags out as experiments for getting into SPS - these are good corals to try SPS with, and it wouldn't be the end of the world if some of them don't make it. Last caveat is my wife is expecting with a due date only ten days after the Christmas party, so if "junior" decides to make an early appearance, I may have to miss the party and give out rain checks on the frags. But you'll get them eventually even if that happens.

PM me if you'd like me to bring one or both frags for you. Size will depend on how many people want them, but these are pretty large colonies, so I suspect there will be enough for some decent-sized frags.

Oh yeah - I also have a few frags of pulsing xenia I'd be happy to bring if any club member wants them. For these, they'd have to be unmounted because I don't have the space in my tank to put them on rubble and wait for them to attach. But it's easy to do - just rubber band them onto some rubble and within a few days they'll attach.

I also have a lot of other stuff (mostly SPS) in my tank I'd be willing to sell frags of - PM me if interested in the details.

Amy and I are looking forward to it. Please be kind as I'll only have a day to get the tanks in semi-order. Although my job shouldn't be as hard as Art's was before his last meeting.

Hope you can make it Jeff:)

I also will have frags of a purple rimmed plating Montipora and orange M. digitata (as gifts of course) for those that want a piece.

Chris

richard and i will be at the party. i'm not sure what to bring yet tho. i'll wait and see what we're missing and fill in the hole. i'll bring an ornament too...

and i'd love a frag of whatever anybody wants to get rid of! i've been dyin to try out the new reflectors on some real sps. thanks!

...and i'll bring your fish trap back randy...sorry i missed last month!

I also have a bunch of brown polyps with green dots in the center growing up the glass in my 29 someone can have. Or we can split them up if more than one wants them.

I do have flatworms in that tank (the 29) so we would have to dip anything out of there in a hefty does of FWE. That's not a problem though.

No interest in exchanging ornaments though (non-Christians = no Christmas tree).

Just so you know Christmas trees are not Christian... they are actually pagan. Kinda funny they are so closely related/thought of as being Christian.

I hope you guys have a great Christmas party...we are just going out to a restaurant down here in Chatt-town.

I am familiar with the legends of the pagan origins of the Christmas tree. It's hard to tell if they are more than just legends though. For what it's worth I'm not a pagan either. :) The point is, now, they are now what they are: Christ-mas trees. People can attach whatever significance they wish to it, religious or otherwise. That's not my business.

And now back to your previously scheduled party planning discussion....

randy, we tried off and on with the trap for about a month. the wrasse went in, but the door wouldn't go down, i tried to nudge it, but he got out just before i could get it down. then it just got to the point where he would go in and get the clam and head right back out. he figured it out.

i ended up catching him in about 2 seconds with a bit of clam on a hook (i removed the barb). the biggest problem was not catching ALL the fish! they all wanted it. so, once i hooked him, i was lifting him up and the sucker flipped up and broke my MH bulb!! glass all in the tank, but not a scratch on the fish. the dang bulb was worth more than the fish is.

Seems more and more people are using a small hook to catch their fish. One of our members caught a big foxface that way. He broke a couple sps corals on the way out and almost got his MH bulb. Maybe the trick would be to get the fish into a pitcher after setting the hook and lifting him out that way. It stinks having a bulb break over a tank. You will be pulling out glass pieces for 6 months. Good luck!

Jeff...is the pulsing zenia that short, really carnation pink kind or is it the sorta more reddish longer kind? If it's the pink stuff, I'd take some. I completely agree with you about the ethics of reselling frags btw. I don't think I can handle the slimer at this point.

I really do need some EMGS though! I wish someone had some. Heck, I would even buy them off somebody.

Patrick...you should skip their party and come to ours! Are they on the same night?

If you're talking about the zoas, I'd gladly give you some (you gave them to me!), but they are in a tank with flatworms.

Chris, is a dip/bath with a large dose of FW Exit a safe way to rid frags of flatworms? I've always been afraid of fragging anything from that system...

If they are regular flatworms/brown planaria then yes. In a bucket for an hour or two with ~ 4-5 drops per gallon of FWE should do the trick. I've never had one make it though that dip, even in live rock. I have had them make it through the regular FWE treatment in a tank but that's only around 10-20 minutes till you have to run carbon and 1 drop per gallon. If there is a sandbed that further complicates it in a tank.

Also if you look above Melly has flatworms anyway:)
