Christmas Tree Rocks?

Got tubes?
Hi all!

Thinking about picking one up. Anyone know anything about them?

I absolutely love all of the different colored worms in these things!

My main question: Do they usually do well in aquariums? Or is this going to be a blueberry gorgonian situation? ;)

Thanks!

Brandon

I have heard that they don't do too well in aquariums, but I have had one for over 2 years and all the christmas tree worms are doing great, and the coral is growing as well. It is probably 1/3 bigger now than when I got it. If it looks nice and healthy, I say go for it :)

Very nice!

They have two, and one looks good and the other less so (although it doesn't look bad). The good looking one looks really good, actually, and has many different colors of worms on it plus the coral itself looks good without any recession or anything. :)

Thanks Jack!

Oh, and have you noticed more worms showing up with coral growth? IE, do the worms follow the coral growth?

Brandon

Ah man... that stinks.

Well maybe the ones that it has will do well. It has a great assortment of colors on the worms, so I'm hopefully I'll be able to acclimate it well! I just called and reserved it. Hopefully I'll be able to pick it up Friday or so. :)

Thanks Jack!

Sweet, CJ! Thats where I'll be picking mine up there as well. This piece is really nice. I can't wait! I'll probably get on Friday.

It has a lot of nice colored worms. Bright purple, red, blue, and I think a black one or two on there as well. Nice variety!

BTW, how did you acclimate it? I'll probably drip it for a few hours because this piece is really nice and I don't want to loose it. :)

Just curious. Thanks!

This is a coral that I did not dip. I inspected it very closely, but I did not want to kill the worms. Maybe wrong, maybe right, but that is what I did. I figured it wouldn't be harboring pests that would mess with acros, etc.

Yeah, I'm not planning on dipping it, either.

I meant drip acclimating it. I don't think I was clear in that. My bad! :)

Well, I went ahead and had Chris hold it for me and picked it up a few days later. Here it is now:

I had to take these pics at night as the high fish traffic during the day keeps most of the worms in their holes, except for the lone purple one who seems to brave it quite often. :D

There are a TON of worms on this rock! This is definitely one of the better pieces of this coral that I've seen. Good stuff! I think I've had it about 3 weeks now and so far no deaths of the coral or the worms as far as I can tell. Good stuff!

Thanks for the recommendations on these. Very fun coral! And looks great. If you look closely, you can see that there are blue, purple, red, orange, and some that are multiple colors. I love it!

Thanks Jack!

I thought there was a bright green one on there, but there's not. Oh well. Still a great piece! :)
