i was thinking about getting a christmas wrasse in my 55 gallon reef tank and was wondering if these guys are reef safe?

Well, according to LA they are with caution because they are not entirely invert safe.
"It will eat fireworms and pyramidellid snails, protecting corals and clams. In addition, it may eat feather dusters, wild shrimp, tubeworms, and flatworms. It may also eat parasites off of tank mates. The Christmas Wrasse diet should include vitamin enriched frozen mysis shrimp, vitamin enriched frozen brine shrimp, and other meaty foods along with a high quality marine flake and marine pellet food."
Looks good for corals and clams.

Are you sure the chunks it was taking out of your other fish wasn't just parasites it was picking off. :strooper:

Thats funny, I had the exact same experience. Ironically it was more behaved in the 55 fish only tank then the 180 gal reef. He terrorized 3 small percs I had in my tank to death. He made my midas blenny jump im pretty sure. I put him back in the 55 and found him a week later dried to the floor.

i had one and he loved to eat the foots of my clams wipping out my clam collection that i spent over $400 on.

I've got one in my 55 that's a model citizen. always out and about and doesn't bother any of my cuc, clowns, or blennies. I guess you take your chances and hope you get a nice one.
