I've slowly but surely been losing my green chromis (Chromis viridis). I started with 7, ranging in size from small, about 1.5", to fairly good sized, 2.5" to 3". They've been dying off, one at a time, over a period of months.
They will stop eating, and act as if they are completely blind... bumping into rocks, and hiding in the live rock. Eventually they disappear, presumably finished off by my clean-up crew.
I was finally left with 2 chromis, one large, one small. About three weeks ago, the larger one developed this blindness. This time, I fished him out and put him in QT. He's clearly blind, and will not eat even with food placed directly in front of him, but there are no other signs of disease that I can see.
Any ideas on what's wrong? No other species of fish seem affected, and I kinda discount chromis aggression issues given that the larger of the 2 is the one affected. No fish have been added to the tank for some weeks, and those that were added were QT'd for 6 weeks with Prazi and cupramine.
Tank parameters:
Salinity: 35 ppt
pH: 7.9 - 8.1
Ca: 420 ppm
Alk: 9 dKH
Mg: 1300
PO4, NO3: ND
Temp: 78 F
Feeding 2x daily, Rod's Fish -Only, PE Mysis
Tankmates: 2 lyretail anthias, 1 lawnmower blenny, 1 McCosker's wrasse, 1 2" yellow tang, 1 3" Kole tang, 1 foxface lo rabbitfish. No intraspecific aggression issues noted.
