Chromis groups over time-

Im considering another try at a group of Chromis in my new 210 build. I have kept green Chromis (viridis) in the past, however, they went from a group of 9 to just 3 in less than two years in my old 180. I have read some threads of people keeping other species with more success (vanderbuilti).

Do all Chromis pick eachother off slowly overtime? What can I do to prevent aggression?

ps. Has anyone ever seen these in the trade, The Japanese Chromis (Chromis maritianis)?

If it's green chromis, they ALWAYS fight and reduce overtime in captivity. I have owned, and observed others' tanks while doing maintenance for them in the past that no one was able to keep the entire group. Overtime, they will reduce. I started with a group of 7 two years ago and now I have 3 left with 1 permanently hiding except for feeding, they are all BIG though. Why don't you try school of cardinals if you want a group of something? or some anthias.

First, green chromis develop illnesses. Second, adding more than one chromis to a tank WILL ALWAYS result in deaths. Occasionally people manage a group, but they usually kill a lot of fish trying to do it. I personally don't think it's worth it.

well i know this isnt my thread, however you guys talked me out of it.. Thanks for saving me the head ache. I think i will go with a copper banded butterfly or something nice and pretty instead.

green chromis "school" in the wild most likely for protection, so toss a lionfish or some other big predator into the tank and they probably will school just fine :D
