chromis MIA

how long would it take for 2 emerald crabs to devour a dead chromis? I had 3, and 2 of them had been picking on one and nibbled on his tail, so he would stay hidden most of the time. Didn't see him one day and spent that night peering through the glass looking (LR makes it hard), didn't wanna disturb the LR or sandbed. Well the next day (guess 2 days since i had actually seen him) I decided to move all the LR in the tank and found absolutley no fish remains. Ammonia has been 0 for about 4-5 days now.

Current tank dwellers are;
2 chromis
1 cleaner shrimp
2 emerald crabs
1 sea hare

I have had this happen time and time again with chromis. It does not seem to matter how many I put into my reef, they always disappear and I never find the remains. I think that the clean up crew takes care of all of it and has aquired a taste for chromis.

yea, kinda what i have been thinking, they seem to cut their ranks down pretty quickly. Cheap fish to start with though.

Thanks

crabs can eat a little fish like that in about 2 days

from my experience........ Chromis are the saltwater equivalent of freshwater Goldfish

wouldn't a skeleton be found, or are they so small is all soft tissue?

A good clean up crew doesn't leave bones behind.

One of my chromis committed suicide just last week , along with a 6 line wrasse . Must a been a Romeo & Juliet kinda thing .
