cipro with clowns

I have 2 clowns in with a tail spot blenny and a green spotted puffer. I have never had any trouble out of the puffer but since I add the 2nd clown the puffer has been chasing and attacking the clown. I have them sperated now to keep the clown safe, and try to get them to see if my BTA will host em.

The puffer has taken some big big chunks out of the clowns fins and my question is would it be safe to move the clown to a QT tank and treat with the cipro I got for when I get a gig???

I'm not sure exactly what your question is. If there is noticeable aggression you should definitely move him away from the aggressor. I don't think puffers are generally known to get along well with clown fish so you may want to be careful about that. True percs and false percs will sometimes host BTA's, it's just a matter of if the individual clownfish wants to. I'm not familiar with whatever "cipro" is, maybe someone else can chime in. If he's in a QT by himself then you can treat him in there so long as there is nothing else in the QT that the treatment will harm.

Cipro is a antibiotic people on here have said to use when your first get a hadd or gig.

My question is if its safe to use on a clown like you would a gig or hadd

And this fish is the only one that my puffer has ever messed with. It's also only at night, during the day she is surfing the tank watching my every move

I treated a very small clown with cipro when I was trying to save a Heractis Crispa ... anemone didn't make it but the clown did just fine. That antibiotic (aka Fish Flox) is actually for fish and folks have discovered it works on anemones too.

If you're treating because you 'think' the fish needs it because it's been nipped, then I wouldn't because the fin will heal on its own. I also had a green spotted puffer, awesome fish but they can be aggressive. Is the clown approximately the same size or smaller? If so, that is most likely the issue. Mine never bothered other fish but all the other fish were significantly larger.

Those little Puffers are carnivores and will hunt down others if they're hungry. I couldn't keep an urchin in my tank when I had mine, or clams, or scallops. If he's well fed then he will be less aggressive and shouldn't bother the clown. Mine used to eat from my hand-really smart fish with great personality (tank puppy). I acutally lost him when he somehow got into the overflow and down into the sump. He got sucked up into the return. I think he was hunting something... I was very sad to loose him. :(

He was always cool with clams, hermits, everything lol.

I got a divider now to keep them all separate.

I can't get a good pic of it but one fin(bottom by the rear end) is gone along with some flesh. He seems to be swimming fine and acting normal. I'll see how he does

As stated above, it is usually not necessary to treat a clown with a nipped or torn fin. It normally grows back in a couple weeks.

You should only treat if the fin continues to get worse due to a bacteria infection.
