Circulation for 79 gal.

Hi,

I'd like to ask for your opinions about setting up proper water circulation for a 79 gal tank.

Tank measures would be approximately 39"(l)x20"(h)x24"(w). 2" thick fine sand bed, a fairly small amount of LR. Part of the corals would be SPS's.

One thing to consider is that only one end of the tank would be facing a wall, both the long sides and the other end would be visible. That's why I'd like to place all the pumps to one end of the tank.

What's your recommendation for a pump combination? I've considered using a 6055 with singlecontroller and a 6045. I've thought that another controllable pump and a multicontroller wouldn't be necessary since both the pumps will be pointing to about the same direction, so controlling the second pump independently wouldn't add much value. Or am I totally wrong?

Hi Aquaproject,

I would start with a 6055 and see how the flow is in your set up then you can decide on which controller and or additional pumps are needed.

Thanks for the reply. What about 6101, would it be an overkill for my tank?

I've also considered such arrangement that I would have one more powerful pulsating pump (6055 or 6101, controlled with a singlecontroller) pointing straight from the tank end and two 6025's pointing more towards the long side walls (and possibly to surface/bottom). So all the pumps would still be all attached to the same end of the tank. Rock would be arranged like a "mountain chain" along the centre of the tank since it will be viewed from both long sides. Does this sound sensible?

I have a 75 and two 6055s and two 6025s and one of each are at each end and I get great flow from that.

For your mountain range idea you might want a bit stronger flow on both sides that the 6025s. The 55's should do the trick though on each 'side' of the range. Then you could create some nice currents/movement with those and if necessary for potential dead spots you could throw a 6025 in there.
