A friend told me today how what is believed to be a female Cirrhilabrus filamentosus was found in a sump 2 months minimum after the system had been shut down. It obviously wasn't supposed to be in there and had gone without being fed, although live rock or once live rock was in there with it. The water must have dropped to between 10-15c at a guess so perhaps it had slowed down. It is still alive and kicking after being found. It's reasonable active but has lost quite a bit of weight.
I don't know much about wrasse unlike him but would love to maybe get it for him to go with the male he has. Would just a single female be ok with a male? is there anyway to tell if it is definitely a Cirrhilabrus filamentosus female or are similarly colured females accepted? i know they can readily interbreed.
Finally can a female become male like other wrasse species or are they determined sexes?
thanks for your help.
