This is going to sound like a laundry list, but here goes:
1. Exactly what other "great" stores do we have left
in the actual city of Chicago ?
2. The central purpose why I was interested in developing an informal network of Chicago reefers is because it is unreasonable for alot of us to constantly drive out to the suburbs to get what we want
3. One could argue that we are hurting ourselves by constantly overpaying for livestock at our LFS. Competition drives prices down, or it drives vendors out of the market. If that happens to be the LFS, I am not going to cry. Do they cry in sympathy when they overcharge us? I am not going to give them my dollar merely out of the kindness of my heart. When's the last time you went to a LFS and they just plucked a $30 dollar coral out of their prop tank and said, "Here you go, I like hobbyists, so I am going to give this to you for free."? I certainly remember the last time I went to an LFS and their fish was $30 more than an online vendor's.
4. In general, I never understood the argument about supporting the LFS. The hobbyists
are the hobby, not the stores. I actually do patronize some stores, and a lot of their employees admit their prices are outrageous. I am not going to name names here, but we all know who I am talking about. When Menard was here, everyone went to him, because he was reasonable, intelligent, and nice. I am not certain that we find that combination in the city at all.
I don't want to rant on this topic anymore. In general, I think reefers who live in the Chicago city lack real choice if they stick with the LFS and that is a main justification...you know what, I'm done here.
