CL intake in the OF?

Hello -

Plumbing a CL, Melev style, single intake and outlet, and wondering if I can hide the intake in the overflow. I have room and could place the intake slots down towards the bottom of the Megaflow, to avoid any impact on the durso inlets.

This would be cool, as it would not only hide that piece of the CL, but also keep it away from snails or fish getting sucked into it.

However, I don't know if there would be any impact on the Megaflow - it's all the same tank volume, right? Has anybody tried this? I'll be using a Mag7, which theoretically would move 700 gph, in an overflow rated for 600 gph - will I drain the OF into the rest of the tank?

lmao this is a noob question

thanks!

it might be able to work depending on the length of the overflows and your return pump. also you might have difficulty finding room to put the bulkhead in the overflow, I ran into this problem

No bulkhead to worry about, I can go over the back, Melev style, and there is room for it. I can put the intake slots way below the durso intake, so it shouldn't compete for what would go down to the sump either.

My return will be a Mag9.5.

Hey Big, I did exactly what you have mentioned here. With the Mag drive pump obviously sitting at the bottom of the CL system. Well I instead used a Mag 7 and all it did was leak all over the place from the seal. I went from having a SQWD w/Mag 7 to an OM Squirt using a Gen-X PCX-40.

Good advice guys - I think the way to go would have to be the bulkhead through the OF into the tank, and I'm not sure I want to do that to this tank . . .yet.

I don't think it's a good idea to be circulating the overflow water in the first place, that was a crazy idea. I just need a creative way to hide the intake pipe.

thanks!
