CL pump recomendation?

I've been looking at lots of pumps lately, and I'm trying to get a handle on quality, noise, and overall opinion of different pumps. I'm looking to be in the 1200+GPH range, so pumps like the Panworld 100PX-X or Iwaki 40. Any thoughts on these or similar? I'm starting up and trying to find something used. This information will be good so when I find one used, I'll know whether it's worth it or not. Also, what brands shouldn't I get (noisy, sucks lots of power, not reliable etc.)? Thoughts (and offers if it's cheap!) would be appreciated (also keeping in mind that I'd like to keep electricity costs low also).

both of those pumps are good pumps, but are on the noisy side. Not sure what would give you quiet in the flow range. Don't get a mag for sure in that size because it will definitely be noisy. I think the panworld is a tiny bit quieter than the iwaki. I've never heard a little giant, but the 4-MDQX-SC is in the flow range you are looking for.

I tried looking up T4 the other day, but I can't seem to find anything. Is there more of a name to it besides "T4"?

T4's are notorious for pumping large amounts of heat into your aquarium. I would not recommend one unless you have a chiller or your house stays very cool. A dart is going to be way to much flow. The smallest sequence/reeflo pump is a snapper and I believe it is 2700gph, but can be adjusted down.

Here is it's flow

That would be a great pump and very quiet.

i second the ReeFlo all their low speed pumps are super quiet, the Dart would be my recommendation over the Snapper, dialed back to 1200gph it lowers the wattage draw and you've got the option to increase flow if desired later and the price difference is minuscule.

I've got a few Iwaki's too and they are about twice as loud as my Sequence.

The snapper and dart Sequence pumps are the best value and performance on the market, in my opinion. Almost silent too.

After looking at the snapper it does look like it would work well. Adjustable for the flow I need, it doesn't draw much power, and nearly silent! Now I just need to find someone selling one used. Anyone got a deal?

you usually find one in the for sale section but they usually bring close to retail used, buy a new one you won't regret it, and they are a bargain even at twice the price.

id get the dart anyway. you will have a little more flow at your fingertips should you ever want it for hardly any more cost.

Sweet, quiet, reliable pumps. they just cant handle head pressure very well at all

You just have to plumb them right to not add excess head pressure. They are not pressure pumps.

im aware of that....just pointing it out. Many people after buying them expect 3600 gph and that wont be the case on even the simplest of cls systems.

I havent had good luck AT ALL with my Dart pump. Hope you have good DIY skills so you can replace the seals when they go out!

Must have gotten a bad one or possibly didnt maintain it. Ive had about a dozen different sequence pumps and just recently had my first trouble with one. It was a hammerhead and it was bad right out of the box. They of course sent a new one no questions asked. :)

If you have a problem with a sequence pump, they are right there to take care of it. They are very customer service minded. They are a great company and product.

Ya...I know, Im the minority. I had a terrible time with Chris at this company. As opposed to just sending me a new pump, he INSISTED that I replace the seals. He basically belittled me into just doing the work myself as opposed to sending the pump back or simply exchanging it for a new one. His quote, "Just replace the seal. It's so easy that a house wife could do it with a kitchen knife.". LOL. Not the most customer friendly IMO. It really was quite the ordeal. The seals that I replaced have started leaking again and it's been less than a year. I know Im the the only one with problems with this company and their product. Just wanted to offer a different view for some reason. I know that Sequence pump users tend to get pretty darn excited when you start talking about Sequence. Wish I had had the same experience.

Thats too bad. Sorry to hear. Id be jaded too if that was my only experience with them. How old was it when you first had to replace the seals out of curiousity??

Sorry, I was adding to my post flyyyguy. The pump was about 1.5 years old. It was out of warranty but still...if it's such a darn good pump, shouldnt the seals last longer than 1.5 years? I have an Iwaki thats been running since 1999 and havent had a lick of trouble. I guess it's a different type of pump but still...Maybe having to replace seals is common place with these type of direct drive pumps, not sure.

Sorry to hear that too. I do not mean to say Sequence does not have any problems. However, I just know that they have taken care of me and my friends every time. Yes, of course, they will try to off load the fix if they can. People do tend to just ask for a new pump first. But when up aganist it Chris has always come through for me. Sorry to hear this.

Possibly, it is time for you to send a letter now with what you just said! They may send you a refurbished pump for free! They are good too, as I have had them also.
