Probably missing it somewhere, but quick question on a new derasa clam. Should I be drip acclimating it or do like new fish and match salinity and put in QT?
I temp float them, take them out of the water, check their shells for nasties and then put them in. Clams come from lagoons and other low-tides areas where runoff and salinity and temp changes are quite common. I don't think that you can hurt them much.
The only thing that I drip acclimate are ornamental shrimp.
Originally I temp floated the clam then put it in qt with matched salinity. 24hts later, the shell was open super wide and the inside was torn apart. This time I drip acclimated and cleaned the shell, inspected and put it in the tank. Couple weeks now and it's doing good. All fish I temp acclimate and put in qt with matched salinity. Does great.
