Clam Advice

I was trying to hold out for a 3 inch clam because I've read that they are easier to keep than smaller ones. But I saw this really nice blue 2 inch Crocea today and bought it. After a 2 hour drip acclimation I have him on a cup shaped rock mid may up the tank. So far so good, but it's very early. My question is about feeding. I've read you need to feed anything under 3 inchs. I have frozen cyplopeeze and can get some phytoplankton but how much and how often should I feed. Spot feed or just dump it in the tank? Also at this size will it attach itself to the rock? Any and all other advice would be most welcome. Thanks in advance

Feeding isn't a must. Crocea's a pretty hardy, and as long as you have plenty of light, a 2 incher should be fine without regularly additions of phytoplankton.

Personally, I think clams do benefit greatly from feeding. When it comes to baby maximas, which have a higher mortality rate than crocea, it could increase your chance of success, considerably.

i feed my tank phyto 3 times a week, just shutting off my skimmer for a few hours and letting it circulate. your pods will love it too.

he should attach but may want to move around a bit first to find a spot he likes. place a small piece of LR on the bottom and place the clam on it. if he keeps falling over just partially bury the LR and prop him up.

hey hows it going? I have myself a 5" crocea now. i baught it at about 2"-2.5" and since ive had it the only food i have intentionaly fed it has been phyto planton. besides that and other foods (cyclopeeze, and other home made mixs) its never had a hard time growing.

i prefer putting the clam on the sand if you can. within 2 days my guy stuck itself to the rock. and i had the damnest time cutting off the strings with a razor ( not his foot.) if you can add sand to the "cup shape rock" might be deep enough for it not to stick it self. also remember the clams can move quite a distance. Over night my guy puffed it self to about 6" from where he originaly was. i believe they have their own lil personality. some i have like sand some like rock. try it out.

i hoped i helped. show some pics if you can. id love to see another one.

oh by the way what kind of lighting do you have?
