clam death

well, all of a sudden my 3 year old DERESA took a nose dive! it was doing great then it didn't come out for 2 days. Now the shell is kinda slack and the clam is hardly receptive. I took it out to check it and there were small little creatures[not pods] that looked like tiny mites or crabs? maybe just getting ready for a feast! The clam also had like a transparent web across in certain spots but the web had sort of a metallic sheen to it. I checked all water parms everything checks out and all other corals are just fine! This just before a purchase of a MAXIMA. any ideas ? could it just be one of those things? 250w MH and clam on sandbed of a 90g tank. no other fish hassling it that I can see?

did you get any answers John?

I too recently suffered some sudden clam death for no easily apparent reasons. I may make a separate post to describe my experience to see if any advice on what may have gone wrong.

I got a lot of good info and was almost sure it was pyramid snails but upon inspection found none day or night and its very strange indead.
