Clam died - ??

I should mention that I have 2 other clam/bi-valves in my tank, they are more like your typical mussel/clam and were hitchhikers on my rock. I am not sure why I did not bring this up. I would think they would be eaten as well, except they attached to the rocks on the same side as the opening, the normal location where the "foot" is facing out.

thats kinda weird. They may not be alive if the foot is facing out. Most bivalves that you get as hitchhikers are filter feeders and not photosynthetic, so with just zoo and phytoplankton in the water they will survive and they dont have to extend the mantle out of the shell, like the t. crocea so a predator may not be able to get to them. If you do have a predator it could also be species specific so other bivalves in the tank doesnt necessarily mean anything. This is probably not the case, but some starfish eat bivalves, they are able to pull the two shells apart and then they extrude their stomach and eat the animal. I have only read of this happening with oysters and mussels, but who knows.

Mar-y-sol,
they are definitely alive, everytime i clean my glass, or get closeto them, they close up. I have seen a brittle star eat another one, that was close to these guys, but I think it had died before the starfish snacked on it.
