clam feeding question

Hi, I got my first clam - a 2" derasa. It's been in the tank a few days, so I decided it was time for the first feeding.

I took the clam out and put it in a small tupperware full of tank water and added a cap full of DT's. Its been sitting for about 45 minutes. But the water still is very green. Should I leave the clam in until the water is clear, or should I just put the clam back in the tank now?

Also, is there a cheaper alternative to DT's that you guys use. The bottle I bought was $18 or so, and while that's not super expensive, it's going to start adding up seeing as how the stuff expires in March.

Thanks!
Aaron

all you really need to add is just enough for the water to be just tinted green.i would put the clam back in the tank. the only cheeper way that i know of is to grow your own.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I put him back in. The water was getting a little chilly and I didn't want to shock him too bad with the tmp. differences.

On a side note, is feeding 2x per week with DT's ok? Or more or less?

Aaron
