clam food question

would clams benefit from feedings of cylopeez? I just introduced a blue green crocea approx 6". Also, I just noticed a small hole in it's shell close to the bottom side around to the back area. It's about 1/8 " dia. approx. and I don't know if it was this way at the LFS or happened after I put it in the tank. What, if anything, should be done? TIA, Tim

live phyto is what clams will use for food along with nitrates and phosphates. but with a 6' crocea i wouldnt worry about extra feeding unless ur lighting isnt very strong. the hole is somthing to worry about but i think it wasthere when u got it. check for all types snails

The only food clam will consume is only live phyto. Since your clam is 6", as long as you have enough light, you dont have to feed anything. I always feed my clam under 3" live phyto.

Its possible that the clam has or is being attacked by a bristle worm/s.

According to the instruction for Deltec AquaScape epoxy, clams are susceptible to this. The answer is to use the epoxy to make a saucer shaped base for it to sit in (to which it will attach itself or you can use the epoxy to attach it). I no experience of this and am passing on the advice I found. Good luck with it.

thanks for passsing it along angellely. I think it looks more like a small spot that has been broken out of it's shell, as if it took a tumble from the rocks. But the epoxy is a good idea, but rather make a small "patch" to cover the hole to keep bugs out!? Does anyone know if this would otherwise be harmful? TIA, Tim
