Clam Help please

Hi,

A little less than a month ago I had picked up this clam at That Fish Place. It was doing fine (I think) for a few weeks...now its falling apart !I had placed the clam high on the rocks (was told it required a lot of light)and glued it (not the clam but the rock it was attached to) I have 3 150W HQI /12k reeflux W/4 96W compact flor. (coralife aqualight pro w/lamps less than 3 months old). The water parameters are constant and have not changed over the course of the month. Just did my monthly water change and still does not look any better!
Salinity=1.025
Alk=12.5
Mag=1350
Calcium=480
Temp=78
PH=8.2
I am using a calcium reactor (korallin 1501). Also had a problem a few months ago where my pH was on the low side so I dose lime water with my make-up water (kalk reactor).
Is there anything I should look for or do?
Also have a Tridacna clam on the sand bottom which is OK.

Thanks for any help

a little confused at first,you know the first two pics are not a clam?? but i now see the clam, why did you move him down??

try placing a small flat rock under the clam and then try moving him up slowly. he will need to be in the top half of your tank to be happy.

Hum... think like a4twenty and the first 2 pics does not appear of a clam (the third does). Are those the right pics?

The first 2 pictures are the clam in question (at least it was sold as a clam from That Fish Place).
Then what could it be and how do I keep it from dieing??

Thanks
Ed

Not experienced in coral id (think might be one). Reccommend post pics in forum's coral section; requesting identification and help with care. Good luck!

the first pic is of a dead or soon to be green brain might have been a little on the red side but it's definately a brain coral. Not a clam. Bottom is a crocea and looks o.k but I would attempt to attach him to some sort of a rock and get him higher up. 150's on a 180 that clam will be much happier higher up.

Not to much you can do about the dieing brain looks like it's pretty much already gone as tissue recission is way to advanced to bring it back in my opinion. I would throw it out or back at the LFS that sold it to you as a clam.

The first 2 pics are of a trachaphylia, a type of brain coral. Clams have 2 shells and can close. You really should do some research before you buy things. You probably gave the trach too much light and thats what killed. They are a very nice coral, but under MH they should be placed in the sand where they will be most happy.
