Clam ID; I've searched but...

Seeing the side of the shell would be very helpfull. But I think the one on the right is a Maxima. It looks like a scute is sticking up on the top side. If this is true Crocea don't usually have large pronounce scutes, as they live in crevacies in rock and substrate.

I would be willing to bet money they are both croceas! I have never guessed a clam wrong from the mantle. Besides If it is open all the way you never see the shell. At work I have seen crocea with scutes as large as a maxima's too. The only ones that are hard are the hybrids that pop up.

I think the one on the right is a maxima also. Look at the width of the flat of the mantle where the excurrent siphon is. It is usually much smaller in a maxima (if any at all) and much larger/flatter in a crocea.

Need to see the shell....

omg 2 croceas...what is the problem here. They are not maximas. LOL....Ali is right stop confusing the guy.,

I'm leaning towards saying they're Croceas, and for what it may be worth both of the shells look the same; have kind of ripples in them. I will try to get a good shot of the shell and see if that will help. Thanks to you all!
