Clam Lighting

I finally am going to have a set of 175 MH lights for my 55 gal. so the question is what bulb is best for clams?

The I am getting both 5500K and 6500K bulbs along with the fixture will these work or do I need something else?

Thanks!

The clamsdirect dude Barry I believe uses Ushio 10ks. You know, as long as it's "enough" it's more a matter of aesthetics and on that point, 5500 and 6500k bulbs tend to look fugly.

Happy New Year!

I use cheap imported 250 watt 10k's that are closer to 6500's. I am changing to coralvue 10k's because I like it a little on the blue side. I would use a minimum of the 6500's. If you don't mind the color they will work fine.

Anyone else? What are you using on your own clams

I have a 4 inch Blue Maxima on my rock work of my 90gal. And it loves my Duel 175watt Ushio 10K's with duel 110watt VHO's:D

I use 5500k bulbs over my clams, I like the color, some do not. My clams seem to like it better than 10k or 20k. I have never tried 6500k.
