hey this is a question about my crocea clams mantle....

some spots around the edge looked to be nipped or recceding

what can be causing this??

i dont have any fish in my tank that would nip i havent seen anything funny happening in the tank...

anyother suggestions like pest or what???

my otehr larger crocea seems fine all water parameters are excellent and lighting is MH + PC

thanks for any suggestions and help!

as far as fish i currently have:

a 3 stripped damsil
2 yellow tail damsils
electric blue damsil
tomato clown
hippo tang
small fuzzy dwarf lion fish
siscor tail goby
mandarin dragonet
engineer goby

ive had the clam now for about 6-8 weeks i picked it up at the LFS and it wasnt in the best shape it was gapping and lost some color due to being under VHO's it has great color now and the gap close and the mantle grew back

now i noticed that some of the edges look to be deteriorating doesnt look to be a fish nipping but as though they are dying at the edges... the rest of the clam looks great still and its fully expanded ...

and it seems to be only along one edge the one closest to the front glass.... im kinda at a loss to whats going on since it was doing so great and was regrowing its mantle

thanks for any help any other questions please ask

is the clam retracting it's mantle or does it look like it's ruffled.

is your Ca/Alk up high?

have you checked for pyram snails

my calcium is 440 my alk is 9

its mantle is fully opened during light hours...

i dont know what those snails look like exactly how would i go about looking for them and is that something they do is eat at the mantle??

thanks!!

this is about as good of a pic i can get sorry im still learning how to post on this site....

its only on the close side of the clam the other side of the mantle is perfectly fine ,.... i dont see any of those snails i inspected him and seen nothing

im wondering whats goin on

thanks for your help!!!

if you are talking about the little bit of rippeling along the edge of the mantle on the right side, thats normal, looks fine to me. if it gets worse or starts to curl up and in, and starts to receide into the shell then post back.

hmmm im lookin right along the edge of the mantle which is hard to see there is some chunks that are missing not the ripples but the little nipped out looking parts.... its like pieces have either receded back or have been nipped off that side
