Clam on bare bottom and happy!

I had a clam that jumped off the rocks after sitting there for 4 weeks. So I just left it there facing away from the tank for a few days. Today I came home from work and it is sitting straight up on the bare bottom facing the way I wanted it to.

That isn't surprising because a bare bottom feels like a nice solid surface to a clam... the downside to this is that it will undoubtedly attach to that bare bottom (if it didn't already), which will mean that you can't remove it to inspect it periodically, clean anything off its shell, etc. The only way to remove it once attached, would be to either gently rock it so that you can see the byssal threads and then cut them cleanly w/o cutting the foot or to slide a razor blade carefully along the tank bottom and sever the threads w/o cutting the foot.

i disagree, since the clams byssal gland cannot penetrate into glass or acrylic, the calm cannot form a permanent bond with the surface. therefore, too remove the clam, just slide it from side to side until it pops off.......kinda like a suction cup.

Yeah he does not attach permently. When I disturb him he easily lets go and just retracts his byssal.
