Clam placement?

I have seen a lot of tank photos with all types of clams placed in the sandbed. I thought just Derasa and Squamosa were placed there, and the other more light demanding clams go on the rock work. Also, do clams in the sandbed need to have a rock or some shells placed benieth them in the sand.

I have a crocea on the sand in my tank and I used a small flat peice of live rock just under the sand and placed it there.

Now it's as happy as a clam ... :lolspin: .... lame, I know.

What is the purpose of the rock if the clam is in a dsb? Wouldn't the dsb alone provide plenty of suppot?

That's weird. Mine hasn't attached to a rock, it's in the sand, and it's threads are just woven into the sand, unless they're long enough to reach the glass through my 4" sand bed...

It would dig itself into dsb until it got its' foot on the glass...which is not a good thing.

I'm wondering why that matters. Whether it attaches to rock or glass at the bottom of a 4-5" dsb what's the difference?

And...if you ever want to move it, your gonna have to disturb the sand bed to do so. I would just stick a small rock or shell underneath it and let it attach to that or put him up in the rockwork if it is a maxima or crocea.

Would a couple of small pieces of pvc work? I don't have any small pieces of rock.
