Clam Placement

I'm looking to get a clam (maxima, most likely), and I'm wondering where in the tank to place it. I'd like to place it on the sandbed, but my tank is 28" tall with about a 2" sandbed. I have 250w MH lighting plus 192w PC actinic lighting - would it be okay on the sand, or should I place it higher up?

Bonnie,

Tridacna maxima like it in the rock work, not to say that you can't place it in the substrate but if you do I would recommendmplacing a rock under him so he won't dip all the way to the bottom of your tank.

Ah, okay, I didn't know that, I thought they preferred the substrate. In that case, I will likely place it in the rocks.

Thanks!

In everything I have read, Maximas do well on the sandbed with a shell underneath them so they can attach themselves to it... important to have something there for them to attach to, so that things can't nibble or tear that sensitive flesh.

I have my maximas on the sandbed. I have 1 that is 4 inches, 1 that is 3 inches and 2 that are 2 inches.
