i feel really stupid..i just added a new clam to my reef..and when i was moving it from a rock the "leg" of the clam ripped out(the part where the clam holds itself onto things) does this mean it is going to die? it opened itself back up and seems to be doing fine but im worried in the next few days its going to start dying

any help would be great thanks!

it will be fine they grow new ones if they happy where you move it

should i just put him down in the sand? i have him on a rock right now seems to be enjoying it lol

Can you post a pic of the clam?

What usually happens is when a clam is ripped from a rock and leaves it's byssal threads the byssal organ can get damaged. If this happens it can get infected and kill the clam.

Now your clam may have been ready to move and just dropped its byssal threads. They can do this, so you may be ok.

see when i moved him he was on his side on the rock so when i picked him up there was this stuff already on the rock which wasnt attached to him as i thought and it kinda all fell right out..maybe this is what your talking about? Here are some pics after it happened yesterday

looks ok to me too, time will tell. just be more careful next time when trying to move him, so you don't damage the foot / byssal organ.
