Clam question, feeding?

Hello everyone,
I have a general question. I have 2 clams, one derasa and one crocea. Recently I put them both into my 150 reef with MH lights. Previously I had them in my 24 nano tank which they always did great. I had them on the sand floor in the 24, btw. At first when I switched them over to the 150 they looked awesome and opened more than I had ever seen them open, but today my derasa is only open a little, my crocea looks great. The only thing I did in the past 24 hrs. is feed them microvert, calcium and trace elements. Oh just a minute, I just saw my clown goby nip at the derasa. Is it possible that he is the culprit? Will he do damage? I also have the clams about halfway up in the tank. Please advise with any help, as I was planning on getting more clams.

clown gobies tend to just sit on stuff, which irritates/blocks light for corals/clams. nippings should be minor.

I am continuing to monitor the clams and it looks like the port hole the clam extends out is bitten off. Is that life threatening? EZ, I thought so too until I saw the little bugger nip right at the port hole. I hope he is not a rouge fish. Will this behavior continue? I fed them so maybe he was hungry.

if the fish continues to nip the clam, the clam will remain closed, not get the light it needs and die.

This is not good. He has gone from trying to host in it, which is bad for both, to deciding it's a food source, which is bad for the clam. I don't think this situation will change til that particular clam is removed. If he takes after the other clam, you'll have to make a choice about the clown.

Thanks for the reply. This morning I was watching the clams and the crocea came out and looked great. But every time the derasa came out,that darn clown goby would nip at him. So I tried getting the clam out, but his foot was attached to a large rock, and I didn't want to rip him off, so I removed the goby by luring him into the open with food. He is now in my 24 nano tank. I will let you know how the derasa looks later today.

Well, it has now beenseveral hours since my goby has been banished and the clams look great, opened and looking healthy. I obviously found the problem maker.

Clown gobies suck. I had one that damn near killed 4 acro colonies. Just kept wrecking polyps. I finally got lucky and caught him out. I know it was just the individual, but just my luck.
