I am getting ready to upgrade my aquarium and will have room for a clam. I will have Reefbreeders on the tank and wonder how deep I can put the clam. the tank is 36 inches deep. Also any opinions on the the type of clam to get?

Thanks,

Mike

I have a derasa with a four bulb t5. It's on the bottom of my 75 and has grown a lot. It's the easier of the clams to care for.

Good questions.

Deresa clams are the easiest and have the least amount of light requirements. They want to be placed in the substrate as well. The reefbreeders should be more than able to project the amount of par it needs to live down there. But you also run the risk of burning up coral near the surface, so it's really going to depend on how the setup is. I would suggest posting a pic of where you want to place him, and I would start with a Deresa.

On my current tank I have the Reefbreeders about 12 inches off the water and I have acros doing well about 6 inches below the water. I plan on keeping these same distances on the next tank. However the next tank will be deeper then my current tank at 36 inches deep. I am getting ready to build a PVC structure for the rock and am wonder if I need to build a elevated area to hold the clam.

I've never seen my derasa use a foot. They don't use one from my reading. It does move though, so make sure it can't fall.
