clam question

so i have read all i can about the different clams and want to try and keep one. i wanna put it in my 24g aquapod with 70w MH...my only concern is if that would be enough light too keep one. i dont wanna attempt it if that ould not be enough light.

later on down the line i am going to upgrade it to a 150w MH but it wont be for a few months.

second what clam would you recomend as a first time clam and one that will make it under my light. the bottom of the tank is 16" from the light if that helps.

IME I would go with a Deresa just because they are one of the less light demanding clams and I have seen them live healthy under pc...

Crocea will work in a small tank, but you may need to put it up on the rock. They usually like this anyway. That said, I have two that prefer to be on the sand bottom. Everytime I try to put them on rock they jump off.

Hey Jade is it bad for them to live on the sand.I am having the same problem.Mine has only been in the tank for a few days but jumped off a flat rock to go the middle of the sand.It is fully open.Seems happy what do you think.

Will be happy to attach to something solid in sand, i place clam shells under my crocea in the sand. All seem to like it.

thanks for the input on this. i will be buying one here soon. i finally found some really small clams today. but another problem i hear is beacuse they are so small i will have to target feed them everyday, is this true??

Clams are filter feeders I thought so you may not need to target feed them......?
Someone please verify this....I have just started reading about clams.

Clams get what they need from light and the do filter ammonia and nitrates but very small amounts. When target feeding you take the chance of clogging thier gills and killing them. I just add phyto to my tank for the corals and clams.
