Clam Question

I recently got my first clam.
I am unsure where to place it in my tank. I had it sitting in the sand but a friend told me to move it up closer to the light on a rock?
It looks ok on the rock and in the sand it kept on getting dirty with my Diamont Goby sifting through the sand.

Where do you best place a clam? Also if kept on a rock will it run out of space growing?

A 130 reef with 40g sump.
50/50 lights.
I think it's a Derasa clam/ maybe 3inches long?
