Clam removal

Well I need to get my clam out of my tank, the stupid flame angel keeps picking at it and now i gotta get it outta there before it gets picked to death. Is there any easy way to remove it from the rock without harming it ?? Unfortunately it hooked onto the main rock in my tank, so I cant just remove the rock and be done with it.

Anyone have anything to trade for a clam ?? :D

Do you have a pic of its placement? Can the rock come out of the tank? You can use a razor blade to carefully cut the threads it is using to hold itself to the rock. Just make sure you don't pull it off the rock. As for getting rid of it do you have any pics?

Its in the back right corner of the tank in this pic when I first got the flame angel.... I was told to get it out of the substrate and onto some rock, so I did that and now the poor guy is attached to the largest piece of rock that is the "base" for my whole display and getting picked at by the damn angel...

I feel your pain... The way he is at an angle may be in your favor. Can you see the base of the clam? ie can you see the white strands he is using to hold onto the rock? If you can you can dig out under the front and carefully razor blade the strands as close to rock as you can and as he lays over you should be able to get to the other strands.

Hey your layout is nice and simple. What size is that? What kind of light do you have? Sorry to change the topic, but just had to say something.

Not sure how to get it off the rock, but did you try putting something over it to keep the flame away until you can get the clam out, like a strawberry basket? I had to rid myself of a flame a while back-nipped all my LPS's and my clams--I see a nice a few nice LPS's in your tank that may become the next target if you get the clam out.

Heres a pic of it this morning, the lights had just come on s the clams not out all the way, and with the flame picking at him he seems ****ed off all the time, so I really need to get him out of there......

The tank is just a BioCube 29 gallon with the 144w PC upgrade from nanotuners. I am in the process of converting a new BC29 to 150w MH, just modding the hood to deal with the high temps im assuming ill be getting. I'm going to build a sump/fuge to go underneath the stock tank and drill the spare tank. I couldve prolly saved a small fortune going with a regular AGA and making this stuff, but I just am wanting to see if I can pull off a 150 HQI in one of these before buying a large setup.

if you have to get rid of it, I can buy it from you or I can trade you for a GSP rock, green fuzzy SPS frag(don't know the name), and a little toad stool.

Hey Cobra. I am still interested in trading for the clam. the snow storm kind of messed up our original plan.

My idea is to place something over the clam that will partially block the lights and force the clam to move for more light. Maybe it will unattach itself from the rock. My clam occasionally moves around trying to find the best location.

Ill give that a try Dave.... You have dibs on it if I can get it to detach anytime soon, if not, I'll fnid a way to break off some of the rock to get him out of there after the weekend.

Just a thought, but are you really attached to that flame? I see you have a fairly small tank and from my experience with my CB angel I think they don't have the tank sizes big enough for them. My Coral Beauty is the absolute most active swimmer in my 210 gal tank, and I have 3 tangs. He/she would go crazy if I put him in a small tank. I wonder if the flame is just not so bored that he is picking on you clam. My CB does laps around the 6' tank for hours every day, yet manages to stay fat. I have had this angel for about 15 months and it never messes with any coral but swims like a crazy fish every day. Maybe you should give up the flame and keep the clam. Just an idea...

I was just going by what every LFS told me that I would be fine keeping it in a tank this size, just had to worry about it nipping at stuff....

I had a Flame and Potters in my 180 and they worked over my clam to the point I gave the clams away

I dont have a larger tank, so that option is kinda out, and right now the tank is only PC lighting anyway, so I think I would be better off finding the clam a nice home with some better lighting than it would to find the angel a new home.
