Clam under PC Lighting

Can a clam do well under PC lighting? I have a 3 Gal Pico, and there is a perfect spot midway up on my rockwork for a small crocea. I have 36 watts of PC lighting on the tank. What do you guys think?

Hate to say it, but no.

Clams demand extremely intense light. Your setup will be about as good as PC can be, since the clam would only be a few inches from the light, but still it would likely be barely adequate.

In addition, clams demand extremely pristine, stable water conditions. The typical 3g tank will not be stable enough.

Thirdly, clams demand space - even a small crocea will grow big enough to not fit in a 3g tank after a few years.

Could you keep a clam alive in that tank? Probably, but it would be far from ideal. In the end, IMHO, our best course of action is to aim for the best conditions possible, not the minimal conditions to sustain life.

Space wasn't the issue, I would move him into my 75 Gal with my other clams when he got too big. My main concern was the light.

Thanks.

I know your main concern is the light, but I would think it would be hard to keep up with the calcium and alk demands too.

Guess you could always try it out and move it to the other tank if it starts to look bad.
