Ok I put a regular clam that I bought at albertson in my tank to feed my mantis shrimp. It has been a month now and it is still alive and I check it eveyday as I know if it dies you want to remove it so it doesnt mess the water up. So my question is more of is the clam good for the tank? Does it do anything for the water like filter it? I dont know alot about clams so just looking for some info.

it's lionbacker54, from the mantis shrimp forum. i was thinking about your clam idea, as it would be convenient to feed mantis shrimp these if we could. something just seems weird about adding grocery clams to a tank though. so i asked the question to the clam folks on the clam forum. didn't get much response, but one person pointed out that those clams come from colder waters than most things we put in our tanks. there may then be an issue with parasites from one climate going into another.

just a thought.
