Clams and Angels

I currently have an SPS/LPS dominant tank with two large angels (an Imperator and a Annularis) as well as a Potter's Angel and am wondering if adding a clam is safe. Are angels natural predators of clams. I wanted to add a Giga to the tank. Thanks.

large angles are a big NO. pygmy angles are hit and miss but i dont trust them at all

I have 4 inch Juv Emperor, 3 inch Juv french, large flagfin, large majestic and a singapor with a large squamosa and all fine. I find people really have a big hang up with large angels and I would like to see people who respond to this thread either state that have success or have witnessed failure when mixing clams and angels. Not just what you have read or heard. Most large angels go after lps. The term reef safe is changing.

There are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule.

There are people that leave their 2-year-olds with the family pit bull. Would I recommend it? Of course not.

The odds wouldn't be in your favor, but there's a chance your angels might leave the clams alone. Just be sure to get the clam out ASAP if it turns out otherwise.

I had a Majestic angel, Flame back angel and an Cherub angel in my tank with 15 + clams without problem.

I had doubts of having LPS with my large angels but have had no problems so I think it might be worthwhile to try a clam. I will update everyone on how it goes. I do not know if this matters but my three angels have been in this tank for more than 9 months and are use to flakes and frozen foods so their natural affinity for clams may have dissipated. Thanks for all the input.

Sorry if look like at went after you mbbuna, but all you stated was a big NO, this person was looking for experience with the situation, if you have a big NO and had a bad experience then you should have stated that or at least back up that statement with a thread and thats all I was stating. I have done lots of research on putting large angels in reefs and there are many success storys. Just do a search on google for large angels in reef tanks. The most popular in reefs are the majestic and emperor (Imperator).

From what I hear the clam always dies--maybe a way of protecting their offsping??

This again is not mine but just an example of success.

In my experince in the past the dwarf angels have been more problems than large. As I had to removed both a flame and coral beauty due to to much picking and while back, different tank.

I have four clams with my Emperor now, and had clams with him in my reef when it was a juvenile never a problem.
