clams and copperbanded butterflies? Help please

IMG_0895.jpg
not a recent pic but i still have the cbbf for five years, together with T. clams from 2"crocea-12"squamosa.

ya, i've got a little 2" ultra maxima and it looks like the butterfly is going to be a nipper.... that means that the clams will die after awhile? WOuld i be correct in this assumption? thanks for all the help

You can make a eggcrate frame around them to keep him away.
I did that to keep away a Angel away from my clams till I could catch him. Its not pretty but it will save your clams.

yes, if the clam is irritated by the fish constantly nipping and doesn't stay open. why do you assume it'll be a nipper if it hasn't yet? it could just be probing around the shell for worms or such, mine does that all the time. you'll have to hear from others on this but i think that if your cbbf isn't large it won't inflict mortal damage overnight, and may give up on the clam chowder, especially if the clam is firmly attached. keep your eye on it they may be o.k. together.
if it's of any help my cbbf which cleaned the tank of aiptasia and tube worms, eats frozen or freeze dried brine shrimp and small diced pieces of table shrimp. it also probe's the tank for worms and amphipods. hasn't touched the clams some of which were present before i got the cbbf five years ago. it was and still is about 4" and supposedly from the I.O. (not certain of that or if locale matters).

ya as soon as i put the clam in the cbbf took a nip at it or twice. The cbbf is the biggest one i've ever seen. Probably 5" long (bad at guessing sizes, but same length as my full grown powder blue) so he is a very good size. But i'll watch it throughout the night and tom and see how it happens. Thanks for all your help guys.

CBB's love to use their long nose to get inside of holes for food. Mine didn't bother any of my clams until a few weeks of being in the tank. Then, it decided to keep picking at my croceas' incurrent siphon. Luckily, I caught him first try and took him back. He was so beautiful and eating really well! Good luck!

Mine would always line up with the mouth of the clam and just nail it hard. It was painful to watch; they would grab the insides with their long beak.
