Clams and fish

Are any of these reef inhabitants incompatible with clams?

Clarkii clown

Blue tang

Solrensis fairy wrasse

Black cap basslet

Brittle Star

Scarlet and blue leg hermit

THANKS!

I had to pull a blue Hippo tang from my reef because it took to nipping my gold maxima....he'd actually grab the mantle and carry it up near the top and drop it! (see my gallery for pics of my gold maxima, derasa, and gigas!)

I'd read about keeping an eye on 'em, and the fish had been in the tank with a previous blue and gold maxima that ended up dying, but I never saw him touch that one. He just suddenly copped an attitude with the new one! Hate it when that happens!
Don't place your clam in the main area claimed by the clown, either- my Gold Stripe Maroon pushes things out of her area or picks up rocks and such things small enough to carry and moves them out!
Just my experiences....my Coral Beauty ignores the clams and I've also heard/read that they are clam nibblers sometimes. It depends on the individual a lot as well. My Hippo got to @ 5" before he started, also....

Thank you, I will definitely keep an eye on her if I end up getting a clam.

To change the subject somewhat, what is a good starter clam?

I can keep SPS no problem, and have 2 250W 10K HQI with 54W Actinic T5's in a 90 gallon.

ThankS!

Probably my favorite one of the ones I have right now is the derasa. Very hardy, colorful....Looks like you have the light for almost anything as far as that goes. Some are more sensitive than others to changes in water conditions as well....
Great articles from the sticky thread at the beginning of this forum- One by Barry Neigut of ClamsDirect:

Check out Barry's clams for sale at:

I bought all three of mine from him! He'll combine shipping for an order shipped to the same address for your local salt water crazies....he's done two awesome orders for us here in Colorado in the last year and we all highly recommend him! Great quality animals and customer service bar none.
And I thought this one was great for helping decide on a clam:

Hope these help! Even some info on fish/clam compatibility on this last link!
