Clams under pc?

Critterkeeper is dead on the money. I have succesufully kept a clam under PC lighting but only in a 10 gallon that was connected to a larger tank and had 4X65 PC's over it. I had this set up for over 2 years and when I moved the clams into the main display under metal halides the growth rate doubled and coloration improved dramatically. Go with MH for the clams or look forward to losses :(

I have a setup of T5's in a TEKLIGHT, this is fairly recent (and nowhere near cheap) type of assembly, and is stated to give BETTER than PC and comperable if not BETTER light per watt than standard metal halides.

Now as to what aspect exactly is better, i do not know, however one thing i am sure of: The 6 T5HO 54W bulbs i have in my TEKLIGHT fixture give out easily 1.5-1.75 times the intensity of light of ANY dual metal halide light i have seen in any LFS in san diego.

So i think it comes down to product to product assessment. Granted 4-6 T5's may not do the job well, in a standard fixture, but 400W of Metal halide may ALSO not perform well enough with a poor fixture.

Check out the info on the Teklight setup, and make your own decision, as far as i know there is no single reproducable report that has discredited T5's ability to support and allow these clams to flourish in a controlled environment.
