Just an FYI. The Clay Center currently has a Imax film Coral Reef Adventure. It's running through January 2007. URL for info on the film is Coral Reef Adventure.

Anybody seen it yet? We are probably gonna go today to see it and will post a review after we see it.

Actually it was on the TV at the last swap we had and no one paid any attention to it at. It is really good, saw it the first time they played it here, about two years ago. It was one of the motivations I had to pull this club together to teach others how to care for the reefs in their own small ways.

Can you tell me where to find info about times it plays and cost? And how long it is. I searched the Clay Center website last week, but it appeared that it wasn't updated yet. JKJ

I rented the DVD. It had a cool feature where it would just show all the pretty shots from the movie. It's a good educational movie for reefers and non-reefers alike.

561-3500 is the Clay Center phone number

You can bet I'll be there. I LOVE those Imax things! It is truly an immersive experience with the screen wrapping around your entire field of vision and the surround sound and all. It really makes you feel like you are "in the movie". I have been scuba diving on a coral reef as many of you out there have. I know what it is like. However, many of you out there have never experienced a wild reef like that-- this would be a grand opportunity for you guys to "get wet" without actually getting wet. I'll wager it's as close to actually diving as you can get without puttin' on a tank and a wetsuit.

BTW, back in 1989 or 1990 my dad and I were diving in the Florida Keys with Capt. Slate's Atlantis Diving Center (the guy who feeds the baracuda out of his mouth) and NOAA was there filming a documentary called "Our Vanishing Reefs" and all of us on the boat had to sign a consent form. I have yet to see this documentary. Has anyone out there actually seen this thing???? I'd love to see myself diving at 18 or 19 years old. I'll be the guy in the black, fluorescent yellow and red diving suit... of course the suit may look purple and dingy yellow depending on the depth at which I was filmed. My dad's suit was blue and black so it probably looks pretty much the same at depth as it does on the surface. Just curious.

I just went to see this today. It was so much better to see it on IMAX. Just like Jason said, it's as close to diving as you can get without getting wet.

Shows started almost every hour, on the hour. A few hours they show a planitarium type show. Adult admission was $10.50 with museum admission included. I didn't ask how much just the movie was.

Would have made a nice club field trip wouldn't it?
Ahh well if you have not seen it yet, take the advice you see here and go see it.
