The $65, for cold packs and styrofoam box, likely includes additional shipping costs for such items as well.
Something to think about ...
John's a great guy, I doubt he's charging his beloved customers 65 bucks for styro and ice : )

I know him, personally, from my time spent living and studying (Marine Biology/Ecology) in SoFlo ... He's not in the business of ripping off people, but in keeping loyal customers, I can assure everyone here. Now, that I'm sticking my neck out, it may be worth looking into the communication accuracy of the group buy leader. As, we all know, the story can change between various parties. No offense OP

) and then end it with "No Offense"I don't think anywhere in this thread was there a mention of John "ripping people off". In fact, my communication with John was very pleasant and cordial. Not really sure where your reading this as slam against John? Is it the part regarding the $65?
Simply put, his cost to ship styro and cold pack is $65. That's the reality of his business. I think we all understand it. For your viewing pleasure, see email from John:
Order was canceled because it didn't make economic sense anymore.
We agreed to order from John when it gets cooler and we plan to. John said no problem and gave us a 10% coupon for next time.
John ships without styro. This was confirmed by another reefer here in the valley. John stated he has no problems shipping that way here in AZ and the local reefer did state his items did arrive fine. ( Competency of USPS is another story..stuffed the package in metal community mailbox instead of bringing it to the door for signature). Our group did not want to take that risk with close to record heat.

There was an underlying discrepancy, which was holding back our group buy, regarding the [at first glance] obscene $65 additional shipping charge for styro & icepacks ... I was simply, from an outside, non-emotional consumer standpoint, trying to inform everyone else exactly why that may OR MAY NOT be. End of story
You should go and re-read, un-emotionally, exactly what it is that I stated, before attempting to jump down my throat about something so inconsequential and petty.
Especially when I was trying to help everyone else understand how/why you got those shipping costs ...
So take it easy guy, relax, and don't take everything so personally. Was only hypothetical and informing, which is why I specifically told you no offense ... Since I know how many drama based coral queens there are around here

So I layed it all out there, per your request. On the topic of accuracy, it really wasn't "our" Group Buy as you stated.. I never heard from you or knew of your interest to participate.
Perhaps it's how you write things that don't translate well. Maybe next time leave out comments that are personal or accusational such as "Since I know how many drama based coral queens there are around here"
You could have easily just PMed me direct if you wanted to understand what happened and if you felt your friend John was painted in the wrong light, I would have gladly wrote a post to clarify.
Look, your right, this is petty.. but this is a local forum and a pretty tight community. There's a bit of etiquette everyone follows here. I personally have never met you or seen your posts so I'm not even sure your local.
If you are local, WELCOME! and let's just chalk this up to a misunderstanding and move on. Come down to our monthly meetings and I'll buy you a beer.
