Clean up Crew

Yup That Stuff
Soooo I am looking into a CUC for a friend of mine and I seem to remember something about blue leg hermit crabs being very bad with snails. I do remember that the scarlets were very good. What other hermits do people have that work out well for cleaning the tank.

Scarlet hermits
cerith snails
nassaruis snails
trochus snails
Tiger tail Cuc
sand sifting star
brittle star

anything im forgetting?

The dwarf red tip crab is a great and totally reef friendly scavenger IMO http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+501+621&pcatid=621

I also really like the Mexican Turbo snails though they do get large and can be a bit of a bulldozer. However they consume a lot of the most difficult algaes including "turf" algae with gusto. They also seem to stay on the rock work more than many other snails which get "lazy" and only clean the glass. They however, may be too large for a small system.

Of course the emerald mithrax crabs are known to eat bubble algae however I have had little success keeping them alive long term.

I do not recommend the brittle stars since they devour little crabs and snails in my experience.

I also really like the blue tuxedo urchin but again can bulldoze a smaller display. They are also very amusing to watch since they tend to adorn themselves with other corals.

Everything else on your list is fine as well.

Hey Vince...if you are planning on putting in an order, let me know. I need to increase the janitarial staff in my reefs.

hey jerry. Ill prolly be ordering some things in a few weeks caus of the new tank, but he is ordering from that FLLR. I explained everything in that thread. he is going o be the guinny pig testing the waters...lol...

Fish didn't come as advertised. I paid for a certain size fish they called me when it came in told me it was exactly the size i wanted. When I recieved it from them it was HALF the size they told me. After trying to get them to return my calls for a couple weeks I just gave up. They do have good prices on cuc. If he has the time to drive to Geneva he should go pick the stuff up. I might buy from them if I could see the stuff before paying for it.

cool..thanks for the info..should put this post in the fllr thread...very good disrciption of a fairly bad experiance.

Oh man you are about 3 weeks too late. My friend (Bently23) just hooked me up with about 20-25lbs of that Carib Sea black and white mixed sand. He had another good bit of sand left after that and I think it all got thrown out.

Vince, I'm getting ready to tear down the 150 for a possible move in the near future. You can have as much as you need if you want it.

thanks Matt ill keep that in mind in the near future for my tank but right now i just need a pinch to seed a tank, nothing drastic, small hand full or a little cup. as far as the LR piece it could just be a small piece of rubble or if someone has a larger rock they want to sell. thanks guys...

Vince your more then welcome to a live piece of rock I have. I plan on moving it out of the tank very soon. So let me know when your ready for it. Has about 25 Zoas on it as well as some sponges. Its a little bigger then a softball. Its a piece I received from Jerry when I started up my tank. Not looking for anything for it just want to get it out of the tank for some rescaping I'll be doing. Let me know..
